Bastet in ancient Egyptian folklore is the patron goddess of firefighters, the goddess of protection (of the home), of pleasure, and good health. Bastet is known to protect women and children in particular. Much in the way cats would ward off vermin, bastet was said to ward off evil spirits and disease.
